What is BETA-questionnaire?
What is the BETA-questionnaire? |
The BETA questionnaire has been developed to support those who wish to get to know their own or others' behaviour more thoroughly with an openly accessible, easy-to-use, quick and transparent tool. The BETA-questionnaire is a DISC-compatible model using four behaviour patters .The name "BETA" is an acronym made up of the initials of the four patterns: bold, expressive, tolerant and analytical. The name BETA also refers to the fact that the questionnaire is under constant development and upgrading; it has and will have no final version; the feedback of the users are integrated and so the results will become more and more accurate. |

The BETA-model |
The BETA-model serves to describe human behaviour using the four behaviour patters below. The four patterns are present in every one of us but have differents shares and combinations which characterise our behaviour. Each pattern has different emaphases; the strengths and weaknesses vary but are equally valuable. The BETA-profile presents the unique combination that is typical of the individual completing the questionnaire. The profile is influenced by the individual’s job, experiences, current life situation, thus it must be considered a „snapshot”, which may change with time. |

Completing the questionnaire |
The completion of the questionnaire takes about 15 minutes. The questions require the subject to select the one statement of the four which is most typical of his behaviour and another that is least characteristic. The system will then generate the unique profile which best describes the inidividual and produces a written report. The subject is then presented with the report and is asked to comment on the individual statements. In his feedback, he can add whether he agrees or disagrees with the statements or can make remarks. These comments appear as footnotes in the final report.
What can I learn from a BETA-report? |
The BETA report gives an account of the typical behaviour of the person filling in the questionnaire, and as he is perceived by his colleagues and friends in his everyday life. The report describes behaviour types that can come up in an ordinary working environment. Based on the BETA-model, the account formulates conclusions which are most likely characteristic of the subject. The account and its accuracy greatly depend on how the subject completed it: whether he was in a relaxed environment and what his personal goals were when answering the questions. Naturally, the outcome also depends on how well he knows himself. The results function as a kind of mirror: the individual filling in the questionnaire is seen from an angle that he could otherwise never see himself from. It can provide additional information even to people with thorough self-reflection: it is a proven fact that the model is capable of showing connections that have a revelational power for the subject. Should others also read the report, they will have something like a photograph in front of them, which can be further refined with the BETA-model, as the statements can be made more accurate, commented on and interpreted. |

Can the BETA questionnaire be deceived? |
The questionnaire can be deceived, but doing so is rather pointless. Intentional distortions become quite obvious from the results, moreover, the system has integrated indices that show if the questionnaire is not filled in with consistency. The most important argument for the truthful completion is that there is no such thing as a "bad" outcome, since each behaviour type has its values in various environments, which can be developed in different jobs and positions. These can be best and most accurately reflected, if the questionnaire is completed with the best of our knowledge and care.
What are the limitations of the results? |
The questionnaire is not a clinical psychological tool and cannot be used to diagnose disorders. The model presents the main behaviour characteristics but does not claim that no other behaviour is possible. Assumptions are sometimes formulated regarding skills and competences based on preferred activities, assuming that these are performed skillfully, even though we know it is not always the case.
The BETA-model and
|
The BETA model is an upgraded version of the well-known DISC-model. Upgrade primarily meant psychometric development, more accurate pattern descriptions, free of overlaps. The formerly used colours were held onto, so the pattern can still be easily identified. Red corresponds to D for Dominant in DISC, yellow corresponds to I for Influential, etc. Those users who know the DISC system well will be able to adapt their knowledge to the BETA model with ease.
